BANA Questions and Answers
Q - Which classification of membership is for me?
A - If you're certified by BCIA, NBCB, NTCB, NRNP or licensed by TLCTA, you qualify to become a Professional Member of the Biofeedback
Association. You may elect to become an Internet Member of BANA and receive the same benefits if you do not need to carry the Malpractice and General Liability Coverage Benefit. As an Associate Member of BANA you will receive all of the benefits of BANA membership except malpractice and general liabilty insurance coverage.
If you are trained in biofeedback or plan to be trained, you qualify to
be an Associate Member of BANA. If you have any questions about this, contact BANA at info.BANA@ gmail.com (no spaces in email address).
Q - Why are the membership benefits so inexpensive?
A - The Biofeedback Association is a nonprofit association dedicated to serving the professional
biofeedback community. The Association requires biofeedback professionals to be
certified by reputable and independent certification boards.
These boards must teach an accredited course on professional ethics and the proper use of an approved informed consent form. Research continually proves that certified professionals meeting these standards are more competent
than non-certified practitioners. They present a lower risk.
Lower risk means lower costs for membership benefits.
Q - If I use a bioresonance or bioenergetics device can I join BANA with full benefits?
A - Yes, if you're certified by NTCB. In the USA the FDA classifies all bioresonance and bioenergetics devices as biofeedback. In Canada, Health Canada does the same thing. While these devices really are different, the regulatory agencies consider them all as biofeedback.
Q - I use a hemoencelograph (HEG), Can I join BANA with full benefits?
A - Yes, if you're certified by NTCB or BCIA you can join. The FDA and Health Canada both include all forms of neurotherapy and hemoencephalography under the general heading of biofeedback.
Q - Can I join BANA if I use an audiovisual entrainment device and keep my full benefits?
A - Yes, all forms of audio, kinesthetic and visual entrainment services are included under the general heading of biofeedback. This includes both over the counter and consumer products. You need to be certified by an accredited certification board to join BANA.
Q - Can I use a QEEG device and still join BANA with full benefits?
A - Yes, if you use a QEEG device for neurofeedback. Yes, if you use a QEEG device to locate the correct position of an electrode to reduce stress. No, if you use any QEEG device to diagnose any medical, emotional, mental or psychological disorders, diseases or conditions. Diagnostic services are not covered by the BANA group malpractice and general liability benefit package.
Q - Can I use Cranial Electrotherapy Stimulation (CES) and still join BANA?
A - Yes, you may use CES devices as a BANA member and have full benefits of membership.
Q - I have the new Eternale device, can I include that in my BANA membership?
A - Yes, you can become a Professional Member and add Alternative Therapies to your membership. Alternative Therapies covers devices like the Eternale and cold lasers. If you decide to use only the Eternale and stop providing biofeedback services, you can transfer your BANA membership to BANA for no additional fee.
Q - If I use more than one alternative therapy, how much extra is my membership fee?
A - The additional $50 fee allows you to add as many alternative therapies and other approved therapies to your BANA membership as you want. There is no limit to the number of these therapies you can add to your membership as long as you are qualified to perform those therapies.
Q - I am a homeopath (or naturopath) and I use biofeedback in my practice. What's the best way for me to protect myself?
A - Since homeopathy or naturopathy is your primary business, join BANA in that profession to receive the best protection for yourself. Then you will be covered for biofeedback with your membership fee.
Q - Can I just buy the coverage without joining the Biofeedback
Association?
A - Yes, you can, but not through BANA. Comparable benefit packages will cost about $500.00 and
up per year based on underwriting, the quality of your informed consent form and
code of professional ethics and how you practice biofeedback. The price is higher because the policy is
not part of the BANA group plan. The BANA group price is lower for the same
product because our membership requirements are very strict.
Q - How much does the Association make from selling coverage?
A - Nothing. The Association offers membership benefits which are provided
by insurance and re-insurance vendors in the USA and Canada under binding contracts with the
Association. It is illegal for these companies to pay a commission or finders fee to BANA. It would be illegal for BANA to accept any commission or finders fee. BANA will not break the law nor do business with any company that offers to break the law.
Q - What does the Association do with the profits?
A - Neither BANA nor BANA expect to make a profit. If there are any unexpected profits, these profits will be donated to
501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable organizations.
Q - Are we required to build a business web site?
A - No. But since business web sites have been proven to improve both
your public image and the number of clients who use your services, why
wouldn't you build and use a business web site? It's easy and we'll
